Eventually they will run everyone out of business. They really do have "buying power" and they use it to their full advantage.
everyone? that seems a little to broad of a statement, although I agree that they are a powerhouse in the consumer market. i don't really like to shop at walmart with or without a grocery store. they are always packed with people, most of them looking like they are half retarded. but thats what walmart wants, aisles that are packed with deeply discounted items and lots of people to buy them!! **this is only my opinion, i'm not suggesting that half of their customers are actually retarded, they just appear that way** :D
We will all work for Wal-Mart someday soon!!! On a serious note, here are some facts about Wal-Mart from the new Playboy... 1.Wal-Mart seves 18,798,454 customers a day or 6.5% of the nations population! 2. WMT generates 2,670 miles of cash register tape a day, enough to reach from NY to Las Vegas. 3. WMT is now the largest grocer in the U.S. with annual revenue of more than 72 billion and 15% of the market share. 4. WMT's 2002 revenue was $246 BILLION, an amount equal to that of IBM, HP, AOL, Time Warner, Dell, AND Microsoft...COMBINED! Damn, what a company!
Nice find, Bob. Those are some "scary" numbers. I bet the government gets involved at some point. Anti-trust would seem to be a way for the grocers to fight back after getting smashed around.
Those numbers are amazing! I agree that when any company gets to almost be a monopoly the government will be called in to play. Maybe all of this deep discounting is what is causing the economic woes we hear about all day?

Will they be able to do against WMT??? big questiong that i don't have the answer of. Chahine
[quote:3da8a4c52e]but if u think microsoft is also the same thing and they had cases against them for antitrust but nothing was done. [/quote:3da8a4c52e] True enough. Microsoft does have a monopoly, but the fact that they are diversifying their product also may indicate an overall decline in the OS arena. How many times does the average consumer replace or upgrade a computer system? Overall IT spending is also down, and larger companies are moving more towards freeware..
does anyone here think that Microsoft might also have a "deal" with the government that hmm, hmm *protects* them from ever being judged against?
Interesting Conspiracy theory, CG, but not easy to prove. You almost think Operating Systems are a matter of public interest and the government might have some involvement in their development.

Especially with all the potential *threats* that loom large out there. Autofill this, Autofill that..Storing all of your personal information into any operating system seems like a big no-no to me..
Heres another reason Wal-Mart pays minimum wage! http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&e=3&u=/ap/20031023/ap_on_re_us/wal_mart_arrests I wonder if this news will affect the price? Or if life will continue on as usual..
Every damn contractor or landscape company hires illegals, big bro is just screwing with Wal-Mart, after next week no one will even remember this, if the price on WMT stock drops I suggest buying.
Probably not a big enough "scandal" to do much to their price. No real news in this one.
