Help!!!

Hi, Bballman! Congrats on being so young! I was your age once. The best thing you can do is use "dollar cost averaging" and build a portfolio over the years. The single biggest thing you have going for yourself is that you have a ton of time on your hands to build up a great amount of money. What is your current situation like? Are you working and do you have extra money that you could invest weekly or monthly?

Sharebuilder is nice little place to start tucking some money aside. You can have set amounts deducted right from your checking/ savings account, this will allow you to invest partial shares in quality stocks. I'm not sure of the pricing offhand, but I think it's 8 - 15 to get it started..

I'm buying stock with Sharebuilder.com and have liked it for 2 years now. They have a few different types of accounts, one is $4 per company that you buy at a time and the other is $12 a month unlimited trades. Sharebuilder buys all its stock on Tuesday so that is one drawback but if it's for long term it is a fine way to buy. You have to have your stock order in by Friday at 12 noon PST and then they buy your stock sometime on Tuesday. It's really easy to do and I probably wouldn't have gotten into the market any other way.

Sharebuilder is a good deal for the very long term holder. If you ever had to dump the shares in a hurry, it could be a problem, but for very long holding periods it should be okay. The price is definitely cheap enough and the fact that the deposits are done consistently really add up.

First off, congrats for planning for your future at your age. Many clowns I meet your age are more interested in getting drunk and to them the future is this friday night. You want to place a small amount of money aside each week in amounts you can afford to be held for their very long term.

I just sold shares with Sharebuilder and it is an instant sell for $17 or so. They also do real time buy's if you pay for it, I believe it is another $17.

I recall doing that on one occasion. The transaction fees is where the online brokers are really able to make money! If you have to "sell" something quick 100 times in a year, That's $1,700 profit for Sharebuilder. I guess that is why they promote long term holdings.. :)

Quicken also produces software for trading (I believe). I think it might be something to look into. Good luck with your investments BBallman03! I think it's great you're planning your economy at such a young age! :D
