Opinion on Krispy Kreme Donuts (KKD) Stock

Krispy Kreme is the bomb. They sell them at the Giant Eagle now, too. Don't even have to go to one of their shops to get them anymore. Brilliant!!! 8)

The donuts are bit sweet for my taste and the stock is a bit too rich for my blood. Plus they use some convoluted synthetic leases to inflate their profits.

I read that [b:cb8d295a2d]KKD [/b:cb8d295a2d]is going to be opening up test stores in 5 [b:cb8d295a2d]WalMarts[/b:cb8d295a2d] in the Midwest.. Indiana if my memory serves me correctly. If they are able to find [i:cb8d295a2d]MarketShare[/i:cb8d295a2d] in the largest retailer in America, I think they have only scratched the surface of their marketing potential, and have a lot of room to grow.. :D

Good Point Hathor. Isn't [i:a75435031b]market share[/i:a75435031b] what it's all about anyhow?? Strategically place kiosks with Donuts in every [b:a75435031b]Wal-Mart[/b:a75435031b] in America. After all, they are one of the largest retailers out there.. People will buy them without a doubt..

I don't even like the donuts that much. A little "too sweet"!

I love Krispy Kreme. I ate a whole dozen myself this weekend. I was there at about 10:00 at night and there was a houseful. If all the hype about Americans getting fatter is true ( which I tend to believe ) Krispy Kreme has a lot of room to "grow" if you know what I'm saying!!

I'm afraid that you are right on that assumption. I have been noticing that this subject has been brought up a lot on the evening news. Never before have so many different foods been so available to anyone looking for something to eat..

I won't tell you what the line at this place was like on a Sunday morning.. OK, maybe I will.. at 11:00 am Sunday, I had to wait.. no kidding.. 15 minutes in line for a dozen of my sweet treats. There were also about 0 parking spots left.. I'm not sure if this is the trend in my neightborhood only or if its this way everywhere, but thought I 'd report and you decide!!

I see the same thing where I live. Generally crowded Krispy Kreme, day or night. They definitely are doing business.

I wouldn't even try to go there in the morning, I buy them late night as that's when I like them anyways. Mmmmmmmmm...Good!

Here's a concern I have about Krispy Kremes and Wal-Mart. In the south, at least, (esp. TN) KK is especially known for their donuts when they are *fresh*. I mean, that's the first thing that is brought up when somebody starts talking about KK--there fresh donuts. Now, striking a deal with Wal-Mart may get them national market share, but will the quality and therefore the reputation of the product suffer? To me, it seems like a 50/50 call as to whether or not they should go with Wal-Mart or instead just continue to grow independently at the fringes of their current market. :?:

In Ohio, they are already being sold at Giant Eagle. They have a kiosk in only one part of the store (by the milk and other dairy products, which is a good move.. milk and donuts, hmmmm) There are also KK delivery trucks, and a free standing franchise within 10 minutes of the GE. The selection is pretty limited. Mostly the original, but there are also Donut Holes, and maybe another type. but definitely limited. So I'm sure that they are probably "fresh" That being within a day. Just another outlet for them to sell their wares.

That's a valid concern, paroikos. Anytime a company hooks up with a giant like WalMart, they run the risk of losing some of their identity in the process, or losing some of the edge which makes them successful in the first place. Most companies are willing to risk it though, because of the enormous distribution muscle of WalMart.

News from Krispy Kreme. NEW YORK (Reuters) - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. (NYSE:KKD) on Friday said quarterly earnings rose 43 percent on strong sales at its own stores and improved profit margins. Things appear to be looking good for them. 8) Lets see what happens.

Yeah. They are still on a great tear.

Mmmmmmm, donuts...where are my car keys? :D

hahahahahahhah i know that discussion makes u feel like having some  8O chahine

Krispy Kreme donuts are some of the sweetest donuts I have ever had. They most go extra heavy on the sugar.

News concerning KKD. Looks like the shorts have been playing this one. http://biz.yahoo.com/smart/031210/20031203introstocscre_1.html Could this be a buying opportunity?

Hard to say. The P/E is still 50. People are fat. Hugely fat. Are they going to get fatter? If so, KKD should continue to grow because it's food that everyone loves to eat. But their valuation has been skyhigh for a long time. Let's see if it craters altogether before buying in.

I don’t know, a lot of people say that the trend is that Americans are becoming more health conscious. Even McDonalds is changing its menu to conform to the health conscious consumers. I see Kentucky Fried chicken advertising like they are healthy; TGIF has added a full Atkins menu. Wendys offering multiple salads????? Splenda (some sort of sugar substitute) is getting a lot of press lately. Than you have to think about Krispy’s international strategy, Europe said get your fat food out of here. Put your money in computer chips not doughnuts!!!!

You gotta be kidding me  , KKD is gonna be around a LONG time. People like the healthy stuff sometimes but most people eat what they really want. Go to any KKD in the morning and be prepared to wait in a long line. Hell, now that I'm thinking about it I'm gonna go get a dozen...the drive-thru is open 24 hours. :D

You seriously go there and just scarf down doughnuts. I've never been there, infact i've never had a Krispie Kream. So i really dont know much about it, but i was saying for the sake of the nation....dont invest in doughnuts!!!

Just got back with a dozen! 8 chocolate iced and 4 original glazed! The grand total was 6.97....kinda steep but my stomach says well worth it! Now I gotta go walk the dogs and work the sugar off!! Edit to add...I didn't eat all 12, 3 at a time, 3 at a time......

I'm not sure how well they would sell, even at Wal-Mart. I work at Fry's (Kroger's Arizona company) and we got Krispe Kremes in the past 6 months. I'll bag maybe 3 or 4 dozen in an 8 hour shift so they aren't selling as well as one might expect.....

You better run the dogs.

[quote:db1eed0c3a="MCshinko"]You better run the dogs.[/quote:db1eed0c3a] LOL

"For the sake of the Nation, don't invest in Donut Stocks!" LOL. I like the socially responsible angle. And down the road, I'm sure the Fat-Pushers will be in the same boat as the Cancer-Pushers. Give an army of lawyers enough time and they will unleash on the food industy the same way they did with big tobacco. I doubt the proof will be as tangible as the connection to cancer but probably most companies selling high fat foods will have to disclaim it, or offer healthier alternatives. I like hearing the data from ToastMonger. Where he's living, the KK Donuts aren't flying off the shelves anymore. With a 50 P/E, this company is in "can't make a mistake territory". If sales fall, the investment will be doomed.

Alright....EVERYBODY stand back or 3 more donuts get it! You hear me...BACK! :D

Hey. Put that donut down! :D

hehe.. krispy kreme is always featured on MTV's ( Marketing Television ) Cribs One stick thin model had like 8 boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts sitting on her table and I'm thinking "yeah right" she eats ALL of those. Looks more like a quick slide of some product promotion to me!
