Went on a little trip yesterday

Went and found [b:1753e28841]Delamar[/b:1753e28841] a Nevada ghost town. It is 15 miles off the highway and it is on a rutted, rocky dirt road. Delamar was the site of a big silver strike in the late 1890's and lasted through about early 1920's. The town was abandoned when the silver and water ran out. The town is huge, I maybe saw 10% of it but I had no other vehicle and didn't want to get lost out there! Next time I'm gonna find the cemetary... That is soooooo cool. I would love to see an old ghost town. They are so full of mystery.. Always a good story behind them..

It was pretty weird, I've been to one other ghost town but it is only a mile off the highway, this one was very hidden and hard to get to, that's why it is preserved so well I guess, no one wants to drive that far on bad roads. It was really erie being the only one out there. There were gates and fences around that would just creak from the wind. 8O

Did you get creeped out? The desert is a weird place.. I was out in Vegas back in June and we drove to Hoovers Dam (spectacular place) We took a wrong turn and drove.. and drove..and drove.. We finally found a "stop" for gas and water, we were almost in Laughlin. So we turned around and drove the right way.. The only sign we saw was for "El Dorado Canyon" According to the sign, there was a river there at some point in time.. The heat and the mirages would be a good reason not to get lost.. No water, no shelter.. Crazy from the heat. Dead because of no water..

The creaking from the gate was a little weird, I just kept thinking it had been doing the same thing 24/7/365x100 years. That's alot of creaking! I should have gone better prepared, I really should have had more water, blankets and all the other survival stuff just in case I broke down. Hell, I have damn near 30 guns in my safe at home and I only brought a handgun with 10 rounds...that wasn't smart at all.

If you break down in the desert I bet you want water more than a gun :)

Bobjitsu.. How did you find it? A weird creeking fence would be eerie for sure. Lost souls stranded in the hot desert shaking the gate with the wind.

I really need to get a GPS and learn how to use it so I don't have to worry about being lost out there.

That is pretty cool. You live in the right part of America for ghosttown hunting. I was thinking on OnStar system or GPS would come in handy if you're out wandering through the desert.. If not, at the ery least carry a compass! Ghost towns and martians are always cool.
