I think it's an excellent idea. I don't know a ton about investment clubs but they're pretty easy to start and manage. You have to have a way to manage the account and manage everyone's individual shares, but that should be relatively easy to do. If you have small minimums, a lot of people could join the club. I would be interested in something like this.

I'd be interested. That would be a good way to build up some capital. I don't know too much about what legalities would be involved with it, but where there is a will there is a way.
yeh i wander the business aspect of it because we are all located in different regions such that most of u are in us im a resident of madagascar but in canada for instance... how to manage that aspect.... well lets assume i m not even member how u are going to manage the financial, legal aspect, and also how to manage the taxation aspect... unless its added before hand... damn i have too many ideas blipping in my head and i probably don't make sense right now :idea: :!: :!: :!: chahine
I'll dig out a book I have on this and check the details. Basically you have to file some sort of legal instrument to create the pool. Then you set your rules. You can accept deposits however you like. Maybe even use PayPal or something like that. The shares have a Net Asset Value that can be redeemed by people as needed. So in that sense it's like a mutual fund. It doesn't have to be immediately liquid but there must be a way to redeem the shares. The nice thing is that you can buy a lot of quality shares. Small investors pool their resources and it can add up. If you had 1,000 people putting in $10 per month, that is $120,000 float for the first year. Add a few years and more members and this could be a rather substantial fund. Imagine a fund with thousands of shares of TASR and CHS.

I think its a great idea! I would be willing to put some cash in this club; however, there are many issues that regard this topic. You must file some papers with the SEC due to the taxes etc. Also, Would we all contribute the same amount of cash and we would all have the same voting power? Its an excellent idea but we all need to look into it.
Yeah. Buy a few shares of Berkshire Hathaway at long last! I'm not sure of all the rules but the general idea is interesting. It is a sure way to test investing philosophies in a live time environment.
2 important espect that u brought up that i think are crucial aspect of where we are today.. where we want to be tomorrow.. 1 year... 5 year.... but for sure its issues we have to look into more detail.... my opinion would be to look at these details offline and have a meeting on yahoo private room or hotmail group discussion or ect... would be able to talk it live and maybe really generate something concrete... chahine
i know you guys have asked about a chat room. does anyone still use irc anymore? we could set up a relatively secure irc server. i actually have quite a bit of technical ability and could probably add the features we would need to manage an online investment club. there are many legalities but i'm pretty sure they are not insurmountable.
Yea, I agree, setting up an important Investment Club would need to be talked about live, and I read and agree that if this does work out Paypal would be the easiest way to transfer funds.
i can build a sophisticated online system for tracking all the deposits and withdrawals and everything else. it could be tied in with an ecommerce gateway so that deposits and withdrawals could be made instantly and easily. the portfolio could be managed by consensus, using a voting system. all of these applications can be added in php and mysql. i could also add a secure ssl certificate so that all the transactions are private.
Ya, I would definitely be interested in getting involved with this....It'd also help me get out of my current problem of custodial account ownership.
Imagine having all the 314 members donate $500-$1000. THat would be $314,000 if every member put in 1,000. We could go very far with that kind of money.

for sure that u are providing i think a very good base there interms of payment system. In terms of portfolio layou and plan... i would say that it would be hard IMHO to say that we should invest in the tech sector or insurance or others because all sectors have there winners and loosers... the thing i would personally like to see is the flexibility to invest in different sectors... As in this forum we have people who have different interests and understanding of different markets and i think that is a strenght that we should use to attach a larger stock range yet taking a very sage and safe steps... A number of questions that I'd like to raise, hopefully someone can answer them for me. How would we set it up to make sure that everyone is making money proportionate to what they put in? Would we add up the prices of one share of each stock and make that one share for our club? How would we sell part of our interest in the group if we needed cash? Who would be on the managing team? Would the management team make all of the decisions or would they be put up to vote for all the members?

What do you think of the idea of in-house e-metal exchange (EMX)? http://royalsports.biz The idea seems workable to me. As a in-house auction for intra e-gold e-metal trading it would provide a double margin of profit and controlled risk. I'd be interested to experiment.
