Bobjitsu!

Well actually right now. The weather is perfect, in a month or two it will be hotter than hell. If you live in a cold climate and want to experience hot, hot, hot weather than by all means come in summer. If you want to be able to stroll down the strip and take your time walking outside forget summer. I like winters here as I'm not a fan of the heat, summer averages around 105-110 in the day. There is more to do in the summer, they have beach concerts at Mandalay Bay (my wife and I love them) and lots of big hotels have great pool complexes, multiple pools, lazy rivers, stuff like that to enjoy. I would say if you can stay at one of the big hotels at the south end of the strip to fully enjoy the trip. Some people go online and try to find a hotel for $30 a night and end up in the ghetto and it ruins the entire vacation, in Vegas you get what you pay for. Here is a site that has maps and complete information on every aspect of every hotel. www.cheapovegas.com If your coming, spend the money for a nice hotel and "live rich" for a few days, the memories will be forever. If your staying a week or so remember that Vegas is close to alot of cool stuff too, we are 4-5 hours driving distance to the Grand Canyon and they have tour packages at the North Las Vegas airport to fly over if your not into driving. In fact one of the guys from AR15.com is in town from NY for a few days and in a few hours I'm picking him up and taking him to see the Canyon, coming back tommorrow. We have Valley of Fire, Red Rock National Conservation Area, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and lots of stuff really close to see, most think Las Vegas is just slots and video poker. Check out this little list I posted at AR15.com, my name there is [b:cb68e10d15]Wolfpack[/b:cb68e10d15]... http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=22&t=617 Las Vegas has some of the best shows in the world too, but again you get what you pay for. The big shows get about $100+ per person and usually sell out every night. We also have great concerts that seem to be in town all the time. The food, THE FOOD....that's a whole other post!!!! What was the question again...oh yea, right now is the time to visit....

Cool info. I will probably stay at Mandalay Bay next time I go out there. The pools just look too cool. The Grand Canyon is definitely a spot I would like to see. I'm sure its awe inspiring

Thanks for the info. I would like to check out "The Hotel" @ Mandalay Bay, but the rates are quite expensive. What hotel (in your opinion) has the best lazy river?

Mandalay Bay has by far the best pool complex, they have a wave pool, lazy river and lots of other pools and spas. I just got back from the Grand Canyon, it is my second time and it is stunning. You will never know the immense size by looking at photographs, I'm truly in awe...a must visit!

[quote:2db8bed281="Hathor"]Thanks for the info. I would like to check out "The Hotel" @ Mandalay Bay, but the rates are quite expensive. [/quote:2db8bed281] [b:2db8bed281]Hathor[/b:2db8bed281] "The Hotel" is just another tower Mandalay added on but all of the rooms are suites, no regular rooms. That would explain why the price. Check Luxor too, they are connected to Mandalay and they have "inclinators" not elevators, because it is a pyramid. That's pretty cool!

So stay at the Luxor and go to Mandalay Bays Pool? The Grand Canyon sounds stunning. Some of the old mining towns out that way sound interesting, too. I thought I read somewhere you can even dig for gold at one of them..

The Luxor has it's own pool complex, not as nice as Mandalays but nice. I'm not sure if you could access Mandalays pools by being a guest at the Luxor though, they are owned by the same company though.

[b:6fe6771b02]Hathor[/b:6fe6771b02] you will not be disappointed if you take a day to go see the Canyon, I promise. I have been there twice and am going back with another friend in about a week. I never bring a camera....first there are so many beautiful pictures already of it, and the main reason...pictures cannot capture it's immense size. When you look at it you would almost swear it is fake or a painting....it has to been seen in person, pictures do no justice. I did pick up a great book in the gift shop there, it is called Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon by Michael P. Ghiglieri and Thomas M. Myers. This book cronicles everyone who ever died at Grand Canyon and tells how they did it. My wife thinks I'm sick, I was laughing so hard last night reading it in bed. Joe: "Hey John, take my picture!" John "Ok , you ready"? Joe: "No, let me get one step closerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............ LOL...Like one more step is gonna make the picture THAT much more dramatic!! The number of guys who have died while peeing over the edge is amazing too. 8O

The Grand Canyon sounds better than the casinos. (But a nice pool would be a must) I'm sure that the canyon is awe inspiring. That will be a definite must see. Is there an admission fee? How long from Vegas by car?

By car it is about 4 1/2 hours, we went a little over the speed limit and made it in 4 hours. The fee kind of shook me, it was $20, I was figuring $5. The cool thing is it is open 24 hrs a day 365 days a year, it never closes. The best time to be there is when the sun first comes up and then it takes about 6 hours to see the different lookouts, as the sun moves the whole Canyon changes because of the shadows it produces. The worst time to visit (at least to me) would be a summer weekend, it is really crowded, the weekdays are the best in spring or fall. In summer the temp is easily over 100 on the rim.

Also, as far as the top rated shows in town. People like "O" at Bellagio, The Blue Man Group at Luxor, and Mystere at Treasure Island. For local entertainment info check out this link... http://www.reviewjournal.com/neon/showsevents/shows.html Here is upcoming concerts and the like.. http://www.reviewjournal.com/neon/showsevents/upcoming.html

I don't think I can take those Blue Men guys! They sort of give me the willies :P

I saw that Vegas added a really cool monorail to travel down the strip.. Are the hotels still all booked? I know the airlines are reporting full planes again, so the travel industry is doing okay as a whole..

Lots of consolidation in the Casino business. A battle of the behemoths now.

The hotels are full on the weekends, during the week you can find rooms almost anywhere unless there is a big convention in town. You can access all of the hotel websites and check rates and if they have rooms on certain days by going to the Cheapovegas site I posted at the top of the thread. The monorail is in service today, first day ever. I did make some good money on my Ceasers stock when Harrah's announced they might buy them...9 big shares...I'm not gonna retire I don't think.

Cool! Glad to hear that you have an upswing in your stock :) Have you saw it yet? (the monorail) How is the Fashion Mall coming? Is it open yet? Do you know Eddie Powers?

I've seen the monorail, it will be great for going hotel to hotel for tourists. The fashion Show mall is open but I haven't been there lately. Who is Eddie Powers?

I keep saying I'm gonna get there again soon. Now there are more reasons! :) A famous Elvis impersonator. (But I'm sure those total in the thousands out there.. LOL!)
