by my knowledge of td waterhouse comission and fees i would suggest u to open a new one somewhere else... another broker or something becuase they are damn expensive... unless u want to invest large amount i think they are not cost efficient IMHO.more of ur return would be eater by the fees and charges and u will end up making nothing... i don't know how efficient is there service because i have never used it... chahine
You may have to do a rollover. Check with the new company and they will tell you the best way to proceed.
Whom do you suggest I get an IRA through? Who do you have? Why do you like them?
There are many places that you can roll over into. Many banks, both online and off are offering 401K's. My 401K is through my employer, so I can't provide too much info on what I like or don't like. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance :(
Thanks for the input. I have a 401k through my work, but I can only collect on it if I work for the organization for at least 4 years, otherwise, they pocket it. I've only worked there for two years, so I ma not too sure if I will make it another two. :) Anyway, I figured it probably would be wise if I opened my own IRA or 401k. I also have a trading account, but I keep getting told by several older and wiser people that a 401k/IRA is a must have. I'll figure it out... all I know is a want to sit on the beach and drink Coors to my heart's content one day. :D
ScottTrade and AmeriTrade are worth looking into. They both have pretty good costs structures. The island/beer thing is always a good idea for retirement ;)
[quote:c55a26f45b="Svoboda"]The account was with TD Waterhouse... can I just open an account elsewhere, or do I have to use this account only?[/quote:c55a26f45b] I think opening more than one IRA is OK, as long as your contributions do not exceed the maximum. I like DRIPs and I am starting to look into DRIPs with an IRA option. This will be the cheapest IRA account compared to broker IRAs. You can go to Equiserve, click on Buy Stock Direct on your left and do a search for one's that offer an IRA option within their DRIP plan. http://www.equiserve.com/shs/index_shs.htm
:welcome Welcome aboard Nelson. DRIPS can definitely be a nice thing to get into.
Thanks for the welcome, Alfred. :D
:welcome Welcome aboard.
