Chicos is nearing an all time high.
Looks as if they are in a deal to buy specialty womens retailer [b:8634c15e9e]White House[/b:8634c15e9e] for 90 million in stocks and cash.. up, up and away!
Retail is doing very well right now :)
15.7 Same Store Sales for July. It's really HARD to beat numbers like that. This one is a Strong Buy under $30.
[b:efa063ac7e]I had to buy Chico's[/b:efa063ac7e] I love their stores, clothes and jewelry! Why wouldn't I own some stock also. 100 shares@ 27.00. I'm gonna hold on to these! Maybe a split is forthcoming... :?:
Chico's is shaping up technically too. Chart looks good :)
I bought in at 27.00. Now at 28.70. Earnings call today at 4:30 pm. Time for a nice split???
Time for a nice trade if you're in for the short term!
hold this one. theres no end in sight to the sales increases. the white house deal baffles me but maybe they just wanted a backup concept in case Pazos doesnt pan out. other than that, the numbers are unreal.

Wow, Hathor! You're up $5 per share since your buy at $27! Nice work!
Thanks! [b:b2d5b1b5bc]I love chicos[/b:b2d5b1b5bc] Now at 32.30 so they are reaching thier 52 week high, and then some!! :P
[quote:4a58a819bb="Hathor"]Thanks! [b:4a58a819bb]I love chicos[/b:4a58a819bb] Now at 32.30 so they are reaching thier 52 week high, and then some!! :P[/quote:4a58a819bb] You must love them even more today. I bought my shares at $14 so I am pretty pumped.
Check out the 5 year chart: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=CHS&t=5y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c= Around a 3300% return.
Hate to come and toot my own horn, but I'm seeing a 28% increase in the short time I aquired these 100 shares. Not to bad for a "small time investor" :D
This might help explain: FORT MYERS, Fla. (Dow Jones)--Chico's FAS Inc.'s September same-store sales rose 22.2%, handily beating the 9.4% increase expected by analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call
22.2% for SAME STORES! Stores open more than one year. Not to mention their purchase of White House and the launch of Pazo's! Much more growth here.
makes me want to go shop.. what better way to help same store sales go up for the next quarter!!
If you only buy one stock: Chico's would have to be it.
**agreeing with MrAstute.** Chico's has produced year over year. For 20 of them in a row! Go Go Go!!
Another point, Chico's is a new favorite of the bears. Over 24% of the float is sold short right now!!!! When they run to cover you will see another sharp increase in the share price.
**Hanging on to my 100 shares** I'm up 1,078.00 on my initial investment of 2,700.00 I'm half tempted to take some profit, but then the better part of me says "be patient" and hold out for just a while longer...
If it's less than a year then you lose a bunch of money paying capital gains tax. There's no reason to not hold it over a year. It has continued to perform. 24% figures. Mind blowing. The shorties must prepare their scorching. And we get a nice pop. Hold on for the short squeeze when the institutions buy back in. At some point it's gonna pierce that $40 resistance and then we go to Splitsville. And any stock that splits is always worth a ride up for momentum.
I bet people who visit Superior Investor are sick of hearing about CHS but they should check out this amazing one month return! Had you bought Chico's on December 16th for the adjusted close of $31.80 and sold it for the adjusted close on 1/23/2004 of $38.50, you would have a successful 21% return. On an annualized basis that's an over 200% gainer. Not trying to beat the proverbial dead horse here, just trying to point out the excellent short term and long term prospects still available in CHS. Their fundamentals have not become worse. They are, in fact, much better due to recent acquisitions. Their future growth could outperform their past growth, which is one of the best records of any company in business. Put this on your buy list and buy as much as you can on dips. Dips almost always occur 4 times per year after earnings. KP
hey u all i need a little advice... i want to enter in CHS i have round 100 bucks maybe... i want to enter in CHS for the long term going through the splits and so forth maybe will keep it for very long time. and maybe keep on adding as my accounts keeps on building up financially... what is ur entry point advice... and how long you think i should stay in ... chahine
It is never too late. If you want to buy in on a dip, wait until the earnings. Traditionally, the price slips down right after earnings. Not by much, but enough to get a bit of a discount. I still have the same 100 shares from earlier in this thread, and I have a pretty nice return..
Stupid question...when do they do earning next and how many times a years does a company usually announce earnings? 4 times a year?
Earnings are 4 times a year, or once per quarter. In reality, quarterly earnings shouldn't matter that much to most companies but it's the whole game to Wall Street. On February 12th, they are having a big Web Conference to discuss Chico's and the White House/Black Market stores. They are also introducing a new concept called "Soma by Chico's". That is definitely worth a look. Any company who holds an "Analyst Day" is usually a company with good news.
Here's something: 1.877.424.4267 Each month Charlie Kleman of Chico's announces the monthly sales figures. I seriously suggest you check out that recording! Earnings are announce for March 3rd, 2004. If history is any indication, they will hit $40 plus on that day and then crater. For Chahine, it might be worth trying to buy in at $36 now and and dumping it on March 3. You can then repurchase for much lower with the week after 3/3. These are all "forward looking statements" so you have all been warned! I am really figuring the split is imminent this time. They had 2 in 2002 but none last year.
Split you mother SPLIT!! It's right at 39+ now.
It closed at the 52 week high today. I'd say that is real good news. No split in almost 18 months. If volume picks up a bit this one is gonna be on a tear for months. Same store sales were 19.2%. Nobody keeps putting up numbers like these. Nobody. Nothing but good news coming for the next 6 month to 1 year if not for the next decade. We'll see how these guys operate as a multi-concept large cap company.
Volume has been low on this one. Institutions must not be changing hands..
This is shaping up nice as always! May close above $42 today.
Fourth Quarter results are to be announced Wednesday March 3 after the market closes. I wonder if this would be a good time to lock in profits and set a stop, or let it roll and see what happens in the days afterward. Seems that a lot of instituitions might take some substantial profits, and the price will fall. Right now I am hanging on to a paper profit of over 50% on my shares, over 1,000.00 in profit..
I can't see why you would sell it now. You can always dump it on March 3rd. But I have a feeling earnings are going to be way up. What's the chance very bad news has crept in since they recorded that 800 number recording? Sales would have to disintegrate in 30 days and that just doesn't seem likely. Plenty more upside ahead. Hold your winners and sell your losers.
Thanks for your advice. All of my stocks are up, so I don't have any true "losers" but had I put it all in Chico's I would be a much wealthier woman! I'm going to trust they are going to continue to keep on keepin' on.
It's nice when all your stocks are up! Chico's is now by far the largest of my holdings. That's because it has gone up the whole time I had it without much of a break.
damn this company is sold.... chahine
it's sold because it never disappoints. Women with a sense of fashion and flair (that are "too old" for junior wear) that have extra money are bound to shop there. I also heard that they are going to be introducing lingerie and underthings to their offerings. I'm guessing that will spell a "win" for them. How do you beat that?
:P by not competing them...... :!: :!: :?: :?: :?: and buy their stocks chahine
I think Chahine means Solid. Although Sold is certainly something that happens when you're up so much!
   YEH
[quote:a2e0d74b7a="bobjitsu"]Split you mother SPLIT!! It's right at 39+ now.[/quote:a2e0d74b7a] This post from Bob was on 2/6 and Chico's was at $39. It's at $42.50 or so right now. That's up 8.9% in 2 weeks! How many stocks do that? How many stocks always do that?
Sold, Solid it 's all the same really! They have no competition! Buy shares is right!
$43.98 the night before earnings. I guess there's no point in beathing this dead horse again :P
But I guess I can always beat the memory of the grease spot of where the dead horse used to lie: Chico's Reports Blistering 70% Increase in Earnings Just when you think it can't get any better: Up 70% in Earnings Year over Year Up 28% in Same Store Sales in February.
Split anytime?
At their press conference a guy asked would there be a split. The Chico's rep said: "No comment". So the guy said, "So no split then?" and the response was "I said no comment, not no split" :) They said it was up to the board to decide so most likely that is coming soon.
This is the first time I can remember that it didn't crater after earnings! Saw it trading for $46 today so the sky is the limit!
From... http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Feed=BW&Date=20040304&ID=3460899&Symbol=US:CHS [b:42935b5767]Women's apparel retailer Chico's FAS CHS continues to amaze Wall Street and Main Street (as well as Madison Avenue) with its solid sales results. In February, total sales rose almost 62 percent to $67.2 million, while same-store sales climbed 28 percent, nearly doubling analysts' expectations for a 14.6-percent rise. Last night, the company announced fourth-quarter earnings of 29 cents per share, a penny past analysts' estimates and 41 percent above year-ago results. Technically speaking, CHS has enjoyed a long-term uptrend since mid-1998, increasing in value by 40-fold over the last 5-1/2 years. In today's trading, the stock has tacked on five percent to achieve a new all-time high. The sentiment picture on CHS is fairly mixed. On one hand, short interest is overwhelming at 18.6 million shares, or almost 23 percent of the public float. This results in a short-interest ratio of nearly 23 times the stock's average daily volume. If short-covering activity were to emerge amid the stock's latest burst of strength, there could be a lot of life left in the equity's rally. Options players, however, have grown more bullish on CHS. SOIR for the stock has shuffled lower since mid-September and currently weighs in at 0.42, in the 24th annual percentile. I am up over 70% in this stock alone. It never ceases to amaze me, really. They have an amazing brand with many loyal customers, that don't blink an eye to spend a little extra cash. I would have to also say that the "travellers collection" is very comfortable. It is also a lot more stylish than what a lot of women wear (from what I've saw) in airports. We'll see what happens in the days ahead, but I'm guessing it's all good news.
This is the first time the stock didn't immediately fall after the release of their numbers. Every other time. it has fell prior to or right after the last call.. That has to be a good sign..
I'm not selling a share of this anytime soon!
Went down just a bit the last couple of days.. I think someone downgraded them..
Time to buy more. I loaded the aircraft carrier at long last. I sold everything in my AmeriTrade account and put it all into CHS. 1,000 Shares of Chico's! I am holding for as long as I can and sure hope I'm not wrong about this one. But every time I review all the companies out there, this one is near the top.
Pretty heady stuff there, HappyHarry! They have been "downish" lately, the 70 percent gain I had has evaporated a bit, but I have to agree on holding this one. I don't see to many other companies competing with them.
CHS is building a base again. Not too bad considering the scary things going on right now!
This time they fell after good news. I think they will dip in price for a while, and then run back up..
I don't understand why CHS has this thing about dropping right after good news. This is the second time I've seen em do that. It just doesn't make any sense to me. "Sales up 50%! NOOOOOO! SELLSELLSELL!" Maybe it's just me....anyone have any idea why that would happen?
Profit taking would be my guess. Institutions and funds probably sell off to lock in some profits. After the last earnings, I think everyone was hoping for or expecting a stock split, so they held. Since one hasn't been announced as of yet, maybe its nothing more than greed?
UP! UP! UP! Same Store Sales were up 20%! 1st Quarter earnings rose 52%! Let's see what happens tommorrow. It's the start of a big extended Holiday weekend. Profit taking?
Will it ever split?
Chicos hung today. Maybe they aren't going to split and they're just going to let it run up?
Not sure about the split. They always did it in the past. But maybe they want to see the price go up. It was another great quarter! 52% increase in sales. 20.2% COMPS! And most importantly, they even managed to raise their profit margin. The machine continues on. The next month should show some significant growth for CHS. They are at a 28 forward P/E which is cheap for this one.
Yeah.. Maybe they are looking to strengthen their basis price? Retail was up overall last quarter, and the last time I visited the mall there were plenty of people stocking up on summer gear..
The same thing happens with CHS all the time. They announce great news and it takes a while for it to be absorbed by the market. The news has been so good for so long that it slows the growth of the stock price at a certain point. When a stock always sells for around a 40 P/E a lot of good news is priced in and people are worried about the downside. I see $50 coming soon enough for this one.
I'm not budging. I have my hard-earned 1,000 shares and I'm not goiing anywhere. I loved CHS at 17. I loved her again @ 23. And I still love her now that's she's in her 40s. CHS gets better as time goes on, like fine wine.
