Bright Holiday Season!

to my opinion is going to be fairly bright because of the following reasons for the last couple of weeks the market has been gradually picking up and some minor signs of recovery are being noticed... this automatically pushes customer and general public confidence.. a lot of people feel that the market is picking up. generally speaking the retail during this time of the year are on a roll anyways and i don't see and reason otherwise this year except teh troubled economy but celebrations are celebrations in good or bad times the only difference that may exist is the intensity of it... but i think these holidays are going to be crucial to really show the confidence the people have on the economy... chahine

I predict that companies like EA Sports should do well. Gaming systems always seem to be "hot" during the Holiday season. Pricing on Games and gaming systems never seem to fluctuate that much, and they aren't cheap either!

eventhough i agree with u hathor but i think it might not be as bright as it may have been in the past. for instance i read somewhere yesterday that the number of consoles sales have been in the decline... could it be because that every1 has a console, thats why or is it that they are fed up of new technologies coming and going so fast that they are not able follow... maybe maybe not but either ways the games are still a good source of income eventhough if the consoles are not anymore... so the amount of money will depend on how these companies will be able to get out their games and the quality and noise they will be able to make about them.... chahine

I understand that you are interested in ERTS for the Christmas time, this could probably be a good investment, however, you should have entered in this stock last January, when it was at 25, instead of buying in now at 44. In October it took a dive from 53 down to 47. it increased a bit to 52 in November, but then took a steep dive to 43. It might be something to invest in, but be careful, it seems perhaps a bit like a rollercoster from the charts. Good luck! :D

dogfeet it seems that u are relying like i did a while ago on charts. don't not too good in my opinion they are just to see a general trend but usually understanding the strenght of the business in its market or industry is more important. chahine

Hmmm... Thanks for the advice, but where would I find this information? Is it a special site? I normally use www.nyse.com Do you have a better site? Or better yet; do you have a site that gives you everything you need; charts, stability of the company, base, stocks free, opinions etc.? Thanks.

i personally use yahoo finance as my main source of up to date information... the main key is to analyze the data becaue that is crucial. the better u analyze ur data the better u will be at making the decision toward a positive growth.. that i can't teach u because im not very good at it myself... (im learning myself) that requires some work and reading of how is done and usually requires thinking and digging... i guess other people in this forum will be able to fill u more in , in this department.. at least its what i think... it is important to make a small secure investment in a safe company that u know everything or nearly everything about than in a company that u just heard some1 talking about. chahine

I checked out Yahoo Finance, and it seems very good. I saw a lot of different information: Market Cap etc. Could you please tell me what iformation I should know for this? For example: Div & Yield, EPS (ttm), P/E (ttm), Market Cap, Avg Vol (3m), Volume, 52wk Range, 1y Target Est, Ask, Bid. Thanks. :D PS: Why is the Prev Close different from the Open stock price, shouldn't this be the same?

I think it might be because some stocks trade "after hours" This means that even thought the Stock Market is closed, they still trade.

Market cap is important. It tells you the total amount of money the company would sell for if it sold all at once. It is the number of outstanding shares times the share price. Dividends are not a hugely important indicator. Companies which are financially healthy will pay back a small amount to stockholder in the amount of a dividend. If a company has a long history of paying increasing dividends, it is a very good sign of financial stablility. The one year estimate is from analysts. Based on earnings projections they set a target price which the stock should hit in a year.

Thanks for all the comments! It's helped a lot! :D

Looks as if Wal-Mart is having a nice start to the Holiday season despite people getting trampled for 30 dollar DVD Players. They released the numbers and here they are.. Wal-Mart unwrapped the first package for retail analysts earlier Saturday, reporting a record $1.52 billion in sales. In 2002, the world's largest retailer booked sales of $1.43 billion at its Wal-Mart, Supercenter and Neighborhood Markets on the Friday after turkey day. I'm sure the Walton family loves this!

Thanks for the info, that will probably get the stocks soaring on monday! :D

You are probably right. When WMT announces good news, it has a way of raising the entire market along with it. This should rise consumer sentiment and bring investors back in.. I have been avoiding the stores for the last couple of days, I should probably get to the mall and see what kind of traffic and how many bags people are carrying. :) But I hate the crowds.. so..
