Theoretical question about Wal-Mart

for sure that if this occured the mess that it would generate would be massive... not just the unemployment but the whole retail business structure will collapse and people will not have or will loose confidence in big coorporation..... but i doubt this would occur because wallmart has deep pockets and has a good source of income in different cities. chahine

In "theory" this would be disasterous. Not only do they operate all over the US, they are also present in these countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Germany, Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. Imagine the numbers of unemployed folks all over the world..

They employ 1.4 million people! You better believe laying off that many people would have an affect on the national economy as well as local economies. And yes, prices in retail would probably go up across the board without them in the game.

What would probably end up happening would be that the day Wal-Mart shuts its doors the goverment would either 1. open them 2. force forclosures on the property and then resell.

I would have to agree with you on that ToastMonger. They hold a lot of cards as far as the economy is concerned.. I don't think the government would allow them to close their doors. Too many people/ consumers would be directly affected by this.. And we need gallons of pickles for 5 dollars or less..
